Thank you so much for these stories! Reading is one of the best ways to learn a language and these are more interesting to read than translated children books.

What a great site to stumble onto! I find myself searching constantly for new ways to learn and have been looking for stories that I can read without spending more time looking words up than actually reading. I’m excited to explore your site and continue my learning Chinese. 我爱中文!

    Thank you Grace !
I have read a few short stories on your blog and found them extremely useful for learning characters. I am yet to explore the other sections on this blog.
Could you please suggest me some ways to build my vocabulary?
    Thanks again for your help.

      Hi Varun,

Talking about vocabulary building, it’s better to be worked on from all angles. Above all, reading is the most helpful way. Choose the level that you’re comfortable of reading, make your best guess at new words from context, look them up and write them down on a notebook or app for repeatative review. Try to actively use the new words or expression you encountered and learned, either through speaking or writing.

Listening to Chinese will help a lot too. Story reading, news, movie or songs. Anything that might trigger your interest in one way or another. There are plenty of resources your can listen to or watch on this site. Just explore the posts under “Listening and Reading”, “Movie”, “Songs” etc. There are also web sites recommended under “Resources”.

The last but not the least – persistence! Persistence pays off.

      为你加油!

    Hi Grace,

I chance upon your website today and I think what you are doing is great! I’m a Chinese who does not know how to read 90% of Chinese characters but able to speak simple Chinese with friends and family. Will try to make it a point to visit your website on a daily basis and learn more. Thank you.

      Hi Himmel, welcome!

Since you can speak some Chinese, you’re already ahead of the game. You’ll sure to get some where if you make your learning a habit. :-)

Feel free to ask questions anytime.

Hi Zach, yes, “分手“ is the lowest level story and that is not even on complete Beginner level. Have you read that one? do you feel it’s difficult to read?

I’m actually working on a couple low level ones and hopefully I can post them sooner.

Very useful site and I love the popup translation. One suggestion would be to have to have the “Frequency” of a character in the popup description. Like they have in Pleco, that way you know which characters to focus on learning and which are less important.

Thank you so much Grace Feng. Your site on “www.okulport.com” is absolutely brilliant and very helpful, so much, words can’t express how helpful/useful it is. I’ve been learning Chinese for around 6 months now and I consider myself still a beginner. Admittedly, I understand a fair amount of words but there have been gaps to further my understanding. I happened upon your site today recommended by http://www.saporedicina.com/ and it appears to clarify those areas for me with gaps. Your site is very comprehensive (not perfect no site is or can be) up there with the best of the best of sites to learning Chinese. I’m a happy camper thanks to you and I thank you kindly :0)

      Hi Kim, you’re very welcome.

Thank you for your kind note and I’m so happy to know that the site is able to help you in certain ways. Six months is still early to make big leaps. I truly believe that patience is the key in language learning. It’s like growing a plant. If you check every hour, you’ll be disappointed at the speed of growth. If you stop checking, focus on watering, it only takes days to see the transformation.

Hope you keep watering your plant. I’ll be waiting patiently to see you transform. :-)

      Cheers,

    Dear Grace,
